Q. What is an F Distribution?

An distribution is a positively skewed distribution derived from a sampling distribution of ratios.

Some basic characteristics of the f distribution:

  • It is positively Skewed.
  • It is a distribution of F ratios: reflects the between-groups variance.
  • F = 1 when variance between groups is the same as the variance attributed to error.
  • A new F distribution is created when sample size changes:
    • As sample size increases, the cutoff for a (alpha) approaches 1.0.
