How do I transfer all of my EndNote citations into RefWorks?

Please follow the below instructions to export the data from your EndNote account into your RefWorks account. For instructions on how to create a RefWorks account see our FAQ here.

  1. Go to Web of Knowledge and login to your personal account. Click on the EndNote tab.
  2. Select the Format tab, then Export References.

  1. Under the References drop-down select All References in My Library (or whatever group you wish).

  2. Under the Export style drop-down, select RefMan (RIS) Export. 

  3. Click Save. A dialog box will appear for you to select the location where you want to save the file. 

  4. Login to RefWorks.
  5. Click + Add and select Import ReferencesRefWorks screen displaying Add References and Import References option for .RIS file types.

  6. Upload your file by dropping it directly into RefWorks or using the Select a File from Your Computer option.RefWorks screen for importing citations from another reference manager.

  7. Select the file format (either EndNote Windows or EndNote Macintosh given your computer) and click Import.

  8. Your records will automatically appear in the Last Imported folder.
