How do I find information about company mergers and acquisitions?

For scholarly articles on mergers and acquisitions, you can conduct a NavigatorSearch (formerly Roadrunner). You can see an example by clicking here

To locate general historical or background information, we suggest consulting a reference resource, which is typically a book or academic encyclopedia. Our Explore Background Information page is a good place to start, and we suggest searching in Credo Reference and SAGE Knowledge.

Business Source Complete, ABI/INFORM, Mergent Online, and Nexis Uni (formerly LexisNexis) will provide news articles on recent mergers and acquisitions, as well as industry reports. These industry reports may indicate whether an industry is consolidating or growing industry. Start with a basic search and then narrow (left hand) by Geography and then Source Type, e.g., Industry Profile and Market Reports. For additional information, see our Industry Reports FAQ. Unfortunately, however, these databases do not provide a way to pull up a list of mergers and acquisitions by industry.

Resources in Library also offer the option to search for a specific company by name to see its history, including mergers and acquisitions. We suggest using Mergent Online and Nexis Uni to search for a company by name of ticker symbol and then access their history/mergers or acquisitions.

Additionally, Statista provides information on mergers and acquisitions within certain industries. For example, a search for mergers acquisitions in Statistia returned this data chart: Value of largest mergers and acquisition deals in the media, information, marketing and related technology sectors in 2015 (in million U.S. dollars). Another example is this report on M&A trends in the mining and metal industry. Again, this database does not provide lists of deals.

You may access the above-mentioned databases on the Library's A-Z Databases page, under Research Resources.

Finally, the following websites provide up-to-date information on mergers and acquisitions:
