Using a database thesaurus search is a good way to find articles on theories. Follow the steps below to locate articles on family systems theory:
1. From the Library's home page, select A-Z Databases.
2. On the A-Z Databases page, select EBSCOhost Databases.
3. On the EBSCOhost home page, go to the Subjects menu on the blue banner at the top of the screen, and select APA PsycInfo Thesaurus (Note: There are many other thesauri options for other subjects.):
4. Type the name of the theory or subject. In this example, we typed the term family systems. The default search is "Term Begins With," but you can change this to "Term Contains." Click Browse.
5. Results will display available subject headings in the Thesaurus. Select the term that is most closely aligned with your topic by placing a checkmark in the box and clicking Add. In this example, select Family Systems Theory. Your term will be added to the main search box. Click Search to view related resources and content in your results.
6. Results will display that have your selected subject term. Use the Full-Text, Scholarly/Peer Reviewed Journals and Publication Date limiter to refine your results.
For more information on using a database thesaurus, see the Subject Terms and Database Thesauri page in the Research Process Guide.
