FAQs about the combined NU/NCU library website

The new, combined library homepage for National University and Northcentral University has resulted in some content being rearranged or removed. This primarily affects class-based (NU) students, faculty, and staff. Please see the FAQs below to learn more about the changes.

Where is Smart Search?
Smart Search is no longer available as of April 2024. The main search tool for the library homepage is now NavigatorSearch.

I saved some records and/or searches to my Favorites in Smart Search. How can I keep these after Smart Search goes away?
Update (April 2024): Smart Search is no longer available. The instructions below are for archival purposes only.

Saved records can be exported to your email, as an RIS file, or directly to certain reference managers such as RefWorks or Mendeley. However, saved searches can not be exported and must be recorded manually for future use.

To export your saved records, first sign into your account in Smart Search. Go to My Favorites (this can be accessed by clicking the pin icon in the top right), and this will bring up your Saved Records. Click the box to the left of the records you'd like to export, then click the "three dot" icon to open a menu with your export options.

What is NavigatorSearch?
NavigatorSearch is our name for the library's main search tool. It uses EBSCO Discovery Service and is able to search across the majority of the library's resources. It is similar to All EBSCO Databases, but with expanded search capabilities.

Where is the Find Articles page?
Improvements to the library's homepage and main search tool made the previous Find Articles page largely redundant. As a result, it has been hidden. There is a Find Articles link in the Research Resources navigation menu that will open the A-Z Databases page, limited to journal article databases.

Where is the Find Books page?
Like the Find Articles page, improvements to the library's homepage and main search tool made the previous Find Books page largely redundant. As a result, it has been hidden. There is a Find Ebooks link in the Research Resources navigation menu that will open the A-Z Databases page, limited to ebook databases.

Where is the Citation Resources page?
The Citation Resources page can be accessed from the Get Help navigation menu, or directly by clicking here. It no longer appears as a link in the center of the library's homepage because support for citation styles and formatting is now provided primarily by the Academic Success Center (which also includes the Writing Center).

Where is the Library Tutorials page?
The Library Tutorials page can be accessed here. Please be aware that many of our tutorials and handouts need to be updated to reflect the merged resources and services of National University and Northcentral University libraries. This is a work in progress.

I see some changes to Interlibrary Loan. How does it work now?
We are currently in the process of transitioning all students over to a single interlibrary loan system. Until this is ready, class-based (NU) students, faculty, and staff should continue to fill out our interlibrary loan request forms.
