How do I save articles to a folder, or find the articles I've saved to a folder?

While you’re using the Library’s databases, you may see the option to save articles to a personal folder. You must have an account with the database provider (EBSCO, ProQuest, JSTOR, etc.) and be signed in to use this function; otherwise, the databases won't keep your saved items after your session ends. Creating an account is always free, but please note that you may lose access to your folders when you graduate from National University.

Here's how you can create an account and access your personal folders in some of our most popular databases and research tools:

SmartSearch

As a member of the NU Library, you already have an account with SmartSearch! Click the sign in option on the top-right corner of the page to use and access your folders. In SmartSearch, your folders are called your Favorites. After you've signed in, you can click the pin icon on the top-right corner of the page to see your Favorites.

EBSCO

When you're using an EBSCOhost product, you'll need to create an account before using the Folder option. Click the Sign In option on the top right-hand corner of the page. Then, scroll to the bottom of the sign-in page and click on Don't have an account? Create one now. You can learn more about EBSCO folder options on EBSCO's website.

Once you have your account set up, click on the Folder link on the top right-hand corner of the page to access your saved articles.

ProQuest

When you're using a ProQuest product, you'll need to create an account before using the Folder (or "Selected Items") option. Click on the profile icon on the top-right corner of the page; then select Sign into My Research. You'll see the prompt to Create a My Research account on the next page. You can learn more about ProQuest folder options on ProQuest's website.

Once you have your account set up, click on the folder-shaped icon on the top right-hand corner of the page to access your saved articles, and click on the person-shaped icon to access your saved searches.

JSTOR

When you're using JSTOR, you'll need to create an account before using the Folder (or "Workspace") option. Click Register on the top right-hand corner of the page. On the next page, follow the steps to Register for MyJSTOR. You can learn more about JSTOR folder options on JSTOR's support website .

Once you have your account set up, you'll see the name of your account on the top-right-hand corner of JSTOR pages. Click this and select My Workspace to see your saved articles.

Are there other tools for saving articles and citations?

If you would like to save articles from multiple sources, or would like to keep the information you've saved after graduation, you might be interested in a citation manager. You can learn more about them here.
